Feast of Trumpets
A Day of Reflection
For many Yom Teruah, the day of blowing, or Feast of Trumpets is a time of reflection. It is a time to symbolically cast off sins, and plead before the “heavenly court” Both Jews and Christians alike, consider the Feast of Trumpets, an important time to seek and receive deliverance and forgiveness. In searching the scriptures there are few dramatic historic events that are linked to this Holy Day. However, there are many prophecies that link the blowing of trumpets to a special future time. It is the “day of the Lord” and many events will occur, “in that day” that will touch the lives of all humanity. More

Luke’s Message of Warning
The warning message of Luke resonates with people today. He wrote in a time of turmoil just prior to the time when the temple was to be destroyed. It was to be a destruction so complete that not one stone would be left upon another. The devastation would be heralded by a series of world events, national and ethnic conflicts, earthquake and famine. And though the world continues to experience these things the “end” has not come. The Messiah has not returned — not yet! So Luke’s admonition to believers was that “in your patience you will preserve your soul.” What did Luke mean? And what is God’s message for us, in our time. God’s Treasured People?
As a series of hurricanes rocks coastal areas of the United States, and fires consume vast areas of the West, people begin to wonder if we are still God’s “treasured people.” Some are crying out to God, asking for the prayers of others, as they deal with flood or fire. Yet, others do not see God in the equation at all. What do the scriptures have to say to our time? Is God the same yesterday, today, and forever? And if he is, what does that mean for our nations? Feast of Trumpets/Yom Teruah:
The beginning of the fall festival season and the final harvest of ingathering is heralded by the blowing of trumpets. This Holy Day has multiple historic and prophetic meanings. This holy time is the beginning of the ten days of national repentance and reconciliation called the Days of Awe that are completed on the Day of Atonement. It begins the 15 day ascent to Jerusalem, memorialized in the Psalms of Ascent, as the people journeyed up to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles (Succoth). And it looks forward to the coming of the Messiah, to destroy those who destroy the earth and to bring peace and justice to all who look longingly for His return.
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. 25 You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord.’” Leviticus 23

Mystery of Wheat and Weeds – The Parables
Jesus often spoke in parables. These stories had obvious meaning to all who listened. They were “agricultural” lessons that were part of their daily lives. But, there was a hidden message, too. The parables revealed the mystery of the Kingdom. Yet, it was only discerned by the few who “had ears to hear.” And who had “ears to hear,” but those people God was calling into a relationship with Him. Those who were willing to change their lives. Those who would turn from lawlessness to embrace God’s teachings. They were the wheat. So, who were the weeds? More

Judge or Judge Not?
One Scripture Is Insufficient
Many people today say, “Don’t judge me!” Others quote Jesus, saying, “Judge not that you be not judged.” But is that all that Jesus had to say about the matter? Is that a blanket statement prohibiting judgment? Or, is there more to the story? The leaders of Isaiah’s day, who were caught up in lies and deception, were quick to attack the prophet. He responded to their mocks with the adage, “Here a little, there a little.” For, they had totally missed the point of God’s message. More

The Future of Family – What the Stats Show
Family is considered a “public good.” Why? Because of the many societal benefits of stable marriages and strong families. But the future of family may look bleak as many begin to embrace “family diversity,” a euphemism for family “breakdown.” Recent surveys seem to reinforce what has long been believed about the positive impact of strong families on health, education, and culture. Many still believe that the future of family is a key element in building ideal societies. Why is this? More
