Consider the awesome power of God and the hope of our inheritance in the Kingdom that he will establish. The Feast of Tabernacles pictures a time in which the saints will have a responsibility as kingly priests to teach the world the way to peace. When we examine the history of God’s leaders through the lens of scripture we understand that they often failed in fulfilling one of their God-given duties to discern between the holy and the profane. They were disobedient and did not teach the difference between what was good or evil in God’s sight. This lack of understanding resulted in series of national and personal calamities. Let us understand the scriptural instructions God provides and take warning so we can become capable and faithful leaders who can discern truth from error, and the holy from the profane

Psalm 134 — Praising the Lord in His House at Night

A Song of Ascents.

 Behold, bless the Lord,
All you servants of the Lord,
Who by night stand in the house of the Lord!
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary,
And bless the Lord.
The Lord who made heaven and earth
Bless you from Zion!

The bible portrays a vision of the future that some Christians are unaware of, and others reject due to their preconceptions. But what does the scripture say about the millennial world, the world after the return of Jesus Christ. And why does it matter?

The Feast of Tabernacles, the fall festival of scripture, looks forward to a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity ushered in after climactic events at the end of the present age. And yet, many Christians have been deceived into thinking many of the prophecies relating to this future time are mere allegory, and will not have a literal fulfillment. What is the systematized error that has deluded many, and how has it twisted the Word of God.

It is important for all Christians to be reflective about the scriptures and the way of life that Christ, the Word of God, taught because it is only through Him that we can have eternal life. Yet he made some bold statements about those who deceive others with their false teaching. It is only through a love of the truth that we can avoid these errors and remain steadfast and faithful to the teaching of the bible.

The picture painted by Isaiah, and Micah of the millennial reign of the King of Kings, is one that should give every Christian hope for the future. Yet within their prophecies they also include a message that has caused many Christians to stumble, and reject the plain teaching of scripture. Do you know what has been the source of confusion over the millennia since these biblical books were penned? Do you know why these things were allegorized and their plain meaning obscured? Let the Word of God reveal the answer to these all important questions. Make sure you know the answer so you can hold firm to the word of truth, and be encouraged by God’s amazing promises.

Atonement — Lord’s Prayer & Jubilee

The Lord’s Prayer has interesting parallels to the themes of the day of Atonement. This is especially true when it comes to ‘forgive us our debts.’  Often we think of these debts as ‘sins’ — missing the mark or sins of commission. But it also has the sense of not having fulfilled a duty — sins of omission. We owe God for those times when we failed to do our duty, and yet, he is faithful to forgive these debts. But there is a caveat. He says he will forgive our debts  to the degree that we are willing to forgive the debts of others. As his children, God is asking us to let go of the wrongs we have suffered, the debts that have not been paid to us, and the resentments we might be harbouring due to unfulfilled duties that we are owed.

This ties in directly with Atonement and the message of the Jubilee. God’s people as inheritors of God’s land were to establish a system of debt relief every seven years culminating in the 50th year Jubilee which began on the day of Atonement.  This was not only a year of release of debt but one of returning to their tribal and family inheritance. This physical means of maintaining a just and equitable society and eliminating intergenerational poverty has its spiritual parallels.

As individuals or nations we can come before our Creator and in humility ask that our debts – our misdeeds of omission or commission – be eliminated by Christ’s sacrifice. But the caveat is that we must love one another and be willing to forgive others as we have been forgiven. How well are we doing in this God-given duty?

In 2026 Yom Teruah, the Feast of Trumpets is Sabbath, September 12 and begins Friday evening at sunset. What message does this Holy Day named, Yom teruah, the day of blowing, or Yom ha din, a day to remember, have for Christians in the 21st century? Jeff Patton takes a journey through scripture garnering insights from the books of Isaiah, Daniel, Revelation and the writings of the apostles to bring to light the many facets of the Feast of Trumpets, the first day of the seventh month on God’s calendar. Are you alert and aware of the trumpet calls in your life?

Day of Reckoning — Feast of Trumpets

In poetic language and metaphor Isaiah expressed the message of the Feast of Trumpets — the Day of Reckoning. It is a sobering warning to everyone for all time, but most importantly to the leaders who dictate political, social, economic, and military policy. No matter who you are or where you are, God is promising to cut down the proud and the arrogant. He will destroy the great economic system – their magnificent ship of state – along with the builders. Centuries later the apostle John wrote a similar vision in the book of Revelation. John revisited this theme of the Feast of Trumpets — the Day of Reckoning when he scribed the message, “The great Babylon is fallen, fallen…”
