How many of us have known from childhood the verse that reads, “Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind” That is God’s hope for us, true love. Yet how many of us really know what this means? Heart, soul, mind and strength…? You may assume that you understand these words, but you may also find some surprises as Jeff Patton leads you through an in-depth analysis of the scriptures to help you get a clearer picture of what it means to love God. Join Jeff and be encouraged in your walk with God as He reveals through His word, how you can love Him. How can we love Him…let us count the ways!
I’ve always enjoyed those “Love is…” cartoons, some are silly and sentimental, while others bring truth with humour. But the sermons in this series help us understand God’s love for us, our love for God, and how love in our lives helps us to shine God’s light into the world. Learn what love is, from the perspective of the one who created love. Let the Creator define and grow His love in your heart and mind, for His greatest attribute is love. Finding true love is within your reach.
God’s love for us is greater than you can imagine. It is a warm personal love, and also the love that is loyal and gives us assurance in the promises God has made. Take a walk through the scriptures with Jeff and come to learn about ahav, hesed, phileo and agape, the love of God in action. It will give you hope and confidence in your Creator who loves you with an everlasting love.
In 2012 the challenges facing the West loomed large: from the fiscal cliff and economic free fall to the massacre of school children. But perhaps the issues of 2012 pale in comparison with what has happened in this past decade. It is evident in 2022 that these events in our world can rob of us joy. But what can bring us godly joy in the face of such trials and challenges? How can we be filled with the Christian joy — chara, that God promises through the power of His spirit? Jeff Patton explains how God plans to make our joy complete.
Christians believe that they are honouring Christ on His birthday when they celebrate Christmas traditions. But was He born on December 25th? Or does it really matter when He was born? Let history and the scriptures make the truth about Christ’s birth plain. Get all the facts and then you can decide how best to worship Him in accordance with the truth.
In the face of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, we must ask ourselves, “Why?” The bible offers the answer, and points us back to our “cultural square one.” Yet many households have no relationship with our historic, cultural/spiritual roots, as they have no bible in their homes and no knowledge of the basic moral cultural roots that have been lost and forgotten by this generation. Yet the bible is our heritage, and our “cultural square one” that will give us light in darkness if we are willing to listen to its message. So whether we live in a society like that of ancient Judah during the tyranny of Antiochus Epiphanes’ rule of darkness, or that of our modern society of spiritual darkness we can have hope in God’s light.
World leaders realize, “It is a moral imperative to pursue peace.” Yet, the Jews and Palestinians seek vainly for an elusive peace. Peace is something that the holiday season focuses on, yet the world has precious little peace. Why do we lack peace? What were the conditions that were to produce peace in a nation and between nations? How is the Peace of God going to have an impact on nations, and individuals, especially those who call themselves Christians – spiritual Jews?
