There is Always Hope
We may feel trapped or enslaved due to circumstances beyond our control.But like our ancient spiritual ancestors we need to consider that God is able to deliver us. Even if we are stuck in a box canyon or dead end, we are not without hope. Paul admonishes us to consider the examples of Israel during their wilderness journey. They had been slaves, but the Lord God had freed them from Egypt and led them into the wilderness. And yet, when they faced challenges, they felt ‘boxed-in’ and fear overwhelmed them, they quickly reverted to their old ways of thinking and acting that had disastrous results. More
There are major differences between the Good Friday – Easter tradition and the biblical Passover- Unleavened Bread festival that relate to the issue of faith and obedience. Are we following the biblical instructions and ‘hitting the target’ or are we ‘missing the mark’ and continuing in sin. Are we disobedient like Adam who heard God’s instructions but did not do them? Or, are we following in Jesus’ footsteps who both listened to and performed all the the Father had asked him to do?

We demonstrate our obedience to God, in that having been forgiven, we step out in faith to do and to teach others to do God’s will in all matters. The stories relating to the Passover give us a powerful testimony of the need for faithful obedience. Moses had rehearsed all of God’s instructions to the Israelites. They were to kill a perfect lamb, put its blood around their doors, and be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice. This they did exactly as they had been instructed by God, and he protected them from the death angel that killed the Egyptian firstborn. But now that they were leaving Egypt — whether Israelite or Gentile — they were required to eat unleavened bread for the week. And there was a powerful spiritual lesson in this physical action. More

God’s Boundaries
The mission of the disciples of Christ was to go into the world and teach by word and example ‘all things’ that Jesus had taught. Today, we live in a society that is embracing values that stand in stark opposition to the truth of scripture, and those values that conform to reality as Jesus instructed.
As a result, we face a challenge similar to that of our ancestors in the faith who lived 2,000 years ago. Through the power of God’s spirit we must understand the boundaries that we must respect. We must determine those ideas and actions that we must resist at all costs — what is ‘unclean’ according to the Word of God. We must know what is acceptable to God — what is ‘clean.’ More

Preparing for Passover:
As we approach the Passover season the scriptures encourage us to consider God’s plans for us and our response. Are we preparing for Passover?
Do we understand our calling?
Have we made a commitment to forsake our sins and embrace God’s ways?
Have we gained a deeper appreciation for Christ’s sacrifice and forgiveness?
Do we look to Christ’s example as our guide to daily living?
Are we walking faithfully in covenant with the Father?
Are we doing the good works of loving our neighbour as Christ loves us?
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which isbroken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. 1 Cor. 11
Paul’s Testimony about preparing for Passover is something that even atheist and agnostic scholars acknowledge as solid historical evidence of Jesus’ life and ministry. At this time of year it is important to consider the foundation of our faith as Christians. So it may come as a surprise that even secular historians give credence to the veracity and trustworthiness of the gospels and Paul’s writings. Scholars support the eye-witness reports of scripture as authentic accounts of historic events. So let’s consider Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection as recounted by these faithful witnesses.

A Comfortable Syncretism?
Sometimes the truth is ‘hard to swallow’ so people settle for a convenient syncretism — a comforting blend of truth and lies. Jesus had spoken to his disciples and followers about ‘drinking his blood and eating his body.’ But what he said was difficult to understand, even offensive, and as a result many stopped following Jesus. They did not understand that the Passover symbols of bread and wine were given to represent Jesus’ death, his body and blood. It was only through this sacrifice that he could give the gift of eternal life to all who trusted in him.
Jesus also spoke a hard truth to the Samaritans, who thought they were following God’s will in their religious worship. But the reality was that they had a long history of syncretism, blending the truth of God with their traditions. As the chronicler of Kings wrote, the Samaritans ‘feared the Lord’ and served their own gods. This mixing of truth and error is not in accordance with God’s will, as he asks those who worship him, to do so in spirit and truth. So are we slipping into a comfortable syncretism? More

Pride Comes Before a Fall
Asaph, a temple musician and singer during the reign of King David understood a great deal about pride and the nature of the proud. His Psalm 73 reflects on the attitudes and actions of the arrogant, those powerful elites who crushed the people and despised God.
Asaph asked the question, “Why do the wicked prosper?” and came to understand the power of the biblical worldview, and the truth that ‘pride comes before a fall.’ It is amazing to think that this Psalm was sung in the temple. It was a condemnation of the proud, the self-serving rulers of the day, and an encouragement to all who would humbly put their trust in God. More
