The Teleion Man and the Days of Awe
Days of Awe have historically been considered as a time of judgment, the time between the Feast of Trumpets, Yom Teruah, and the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur. During this time God has a message for the physical people, the descendants of Israel, a message of repentance and reconciliation. For the Christian the message gains a deeper significance as we move beyond repentance to embrace the goal of becoming the telleion man (or woman). Jeff Patton will shed light on this goal and our spiritual journey.
Days of Awe — Judgment and hope
During the Days of Awe, the time between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement, we rehearse the prophetic messages found in the writings of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Amos, and Hosea that are refreshed in the writings of Matthew and Peter. These are messages of hope that bring to light God’s justice and faithfulness. These prophecies, though they predict a great time of trouble, yet they also offer a vision of God’s mercy and the light that will conquer the darkness. We are given encouragement to trust in our Saviour who will redeem and free his people, for he will be loyal to his covenant and not forsake those who look to him for help.
Days of Awe – Fence Mending
The days between the Feast of Trumpets – Yom Teruah and the Day of Atonement are considered times for personal reflection. A key question is whether we are fulfilling the Great commandment as taught by Jesus Christ our Messiah, or are we forgetting the weightier matters of the law? Let’s walk through the scriptures to understand some important lessons relating to this time of year in the life of Christ and his apostles.
