Fruit of the Spirit: Self-control

1 Comment, Sermons and Media, Videos, by CGP.

In our world a lack of self-control can cause the fall of great leaders. As disciples of Christ we must exercise self-control, but it is not merely a self-mastery that originates within ourselves. The Greek scriptures give us insight into “kratos” the dominion that proceeds from within oneself, but not by oneself. God is the source of this mastery, that we must exercise in order to fulfill His purpose for us. Jeff gives us the comfort and encouragement of the scriptures that provide us the instruction about this fruit of the spirit, that will train us to be mature Christians who are able to reach godly solutions in our daily walk.

Divided Loyalty

The American election is over but it has not resolved the deep political and social rift in that nation and it is not likely to give the leadership a clear mandate for the future. In a time when America seems divided politically and socially, we need to ask ourselves the important question, “Who deserves our loyalty.” Jeff Patton explores the scripture to reveal the answer, and provide insight into our loyalties as Christians. Divided loyalty is a pitfall on the Christian road.

Fruit of the Spirit: Goodness of God

1 Comment, Sermons and Media, Videos, by CGP.

We often speak of “good” people, meaning those who are nice, easy going, helpful. Yet the idea of goodness in the scriptures is much more than this and is unique to God. So how is God good? And how can we be good as God is good? Jeff Patton examines the concepts of”agathos” and “kalos” in the scriptures to explain these different facets of godly goodness, a fruit of the spirit.

Fruit of the Spirit: Sermon Series

Comments Off on Fruit of the Spirit: Sermon Series, Sermons and Media, by CGP.

The fruit of the spirit has many facets, many attributes that are all interdependent, and all flow from the Spirit of God and fully reflect His character. This series provides a fascinating in-depth study of each aspect of the fruit of the spirit as revealed through the scriptures.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

Galatians 5:22-25
