Yom Teruah Feast of Trumpets

Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the UN, is concerned that, “This year the horizon of hope is darkened…” We are entering a time of judgment and momentous world events. But, for the people celebrating Yom Teruah Feast of Trumpets, Rosh Hashana, our Lord God gives us hope. How does this feast remind us of the hope, the salvation, and the deliverance that our merciful God offers to those who walk humbly in covenant with Him. Jeff Patton encourages us to have hope in Jesus Christ, the I AM, who will return to the earth as King of King and Lord of Lords.

Feasts of the Lord, not of the Jews.

In Genesis, the Lord God set the heavenly bodies into motion for “appointed times” and seasons. What were these appointed times and why and how was their observance repudiated by “traditional Christianity”? Does God still expect his people, those who walk with Him, to observe the Feasts of the Lord, His mo’ed, appointed times, today?

Feasts of God colossiansColossians 2:16 Paul and Holy Days

Since the time of Augustine the traditional Catholics and
Protestants have used this scripture to “prove” that the Holy Days are no longer necessary, a mere shadow and no longer relevant. But is this true? Jeff Patton looks at the facts: the context, the Greek language, and the historical milieu and comes to a contrary conclusion. Listen and understand how Paul’s writings validate Holy Day observance by Christian believers, both Jew and Gentile.

Delight in the Law of God

law a lampShould Christians delight in the law of God? John says sin is lawlessness, and that Christians cannot live a life of sin. Yet, Paul asks the question, “Does faith overthrow the law?” Did he disagree with John? What was Paul’s answer? What is meant by the scripture that says, if it is not of faith it is sin? The role of the law in the life of believers has been a matter of controversy for centuries. But if you are a scripturalist, one who lives by sola scriptura, what can you learn from scripture and history to bolster your faith and understanding of the law of God? Listen and learn.

Law  and Lawlessness

There is a great deal of confusion in the minds of many Christians when it comes to God’s expectations and the role of the law in the life of the Christian. Perhaps, you have wrestled with some of these questions:

  • Was the law “nailed to the cross?”
  • Does “grace” eliminate the need for the law?
  • Are there different standards for Jew and Gentile?
  • Are the ten commandments still valid, but the statutes are not?
  • Was Paul’s attitude in opposition to the teachings of James and other new covenant writers in regards to the law?
  • What is the unified message that the scriptures present concerning the law of God?
  • How should we understand the concepts of torah in the Hebrew scriptures and nomos in the Greek scriptures?
  • And how will this vital knowledge transform our hearts and minds?
    Let the scriptures speak for themselves, so you can know God’s mind on these matters!

Psalm 19
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold,

What's bad about sin2
There is a growing sentiment that sin is not so bad. Prostitution, for example, is viewed as just another “business opportunity” by many in western society. But who decides what sin is, and what are the consequences of sin? Does it matter whether we live our life with an understanding of sin and a clear grasp of the effects of sin on our future? The biblical narrative exposes just what is so bad about sin, and why it is important to you.
