Passover in the spring of the year is rich in symbolism relating to our covenant relationship with God and helping us to see the need for self-reflection, a sacrifice for our sins, and a Saviour to restore a right relationship with God and deliver us from Egypt – a symbol of life cut off from God’s wisdom and guidance.
Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8 Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1 Corinthians 5:7-9 ESV

The Sabbath before Passover is the “Great Sabbath” a time when God calls his people to reflect on his plan: the past, the present, and the future fulfillment of all of His promises. As we rejoice in the Sabbath rest today, let us consider the implications for us, for our children, and for the whole world of the ultimate rest that God envisions for the Israel of God.

New Year for the Israel of God
What does the new year, beginning on the first of Nisan/Aviv, teach us about our past, our present, and our hope for the future?
In the time of Moses, God made a change in the calendar and he revealed new information about His Holy Times. Moses relayed these instructions to the children of Israel in the book of Exodus, and he encouraged the people to observe these days as memorials forever.
