House Rules for Humanity – Who Sets the Rules?

Comments Off on House Rules for Humanity – Who Sets the Rules?, Videos, by CGP.

The Golden Rule Do you know the “Golden Rule?” Would it come as a surprise to you that many people do not know what it is? The “Golden Rule” is something that is even taught in secular school settings. Why? Because it encourages children to treat others in the way that they would like to be treated. Most children in this generation do not know the source of this precept that is one of the house rules for humanity. But those with a Christian background would recognize the “Golden Rule” in Christ’s admonition: “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Is this precept important in your life?

Spiritually Sighted or Blind Leading the Blind?

Comments Off on Spiritually Sighted or Blind Leading the Blind?, Videos, by CGP.

Jesus Heals the Blind In dealing with the religious leaders of his day, Jesus queried whether they were spiritually sighted or blind. He put them to the test on the Sabbath by healing a blind man who had been blind since birth. It was truly a miracle that many witnesses rejoiced in and readily accepted as the work of God. For not only could the man see, but he could correctly interpret what he was seeing. And he, being healed, now understood the nature of the one who had healed him. For he reasoned, who but a prophet of God could give sight to the blind? But this was not the reaction of everyone. Those who thought they were spiritually superior were not rejoicing! Were they spiritually sighted or blind to the reality of God’s power at work?

Effective Prayer – God will Listen

Comments Off on Effective Prayer – God will Listen, Videos, by CGP.

Abraham Talks with the Lord God Abraham knew the power of effective prayer. Had he not prayed for a son? And God had promised to bless Abraham with his heart’s desire for, “Nothing was too hard for the Lord.” It did not matter that Sarah was well beyond child-bearing age, for God could do the seemingly impossible. Their son, Isaac, was the answer to their prayers; Isaac, meant “laughter,” for Sarah had laughed at the idea of an old woman having a baby. As a consequence of Abraham’s answered prayer, a blessing was passed on to all nations. As they followed Abraham’s footsteps and walked in the way of the Lord, they would be blessed. Abraham’s effective prayer made a difference, and God listened. Is God listening to us?

Spiritual Warfare — Quench the Fiery Darts

Comments Off on Spiritual Warfare — Quench the Fiery Darts, Videos, by CGP.

Spiritual Battle, Deception, and Ethnic Strife Are you prepared to quench the fiery darts that the Adversary sends your way? When Christ’s disciples asked him about his return and the signs of his coming, he gave a warning. He told them to be careful, so they would not be deceived. They had to walk a straight path in a crooked world. The society would attempt to mislead them, entice them into error, and cause them to deviate from God’s path. This would become the reality for those who did not know the scriptures or the power of God. And having been deceived, these people would become caught up in the ethnic strife and quarrels of the time. As a result, Christ warned that many people would be offended and betray one another, denouncing even those closest to them. This bleak picture of society would be the direct result of lawlessness and hatred, for the people either never knew, or willfully rejected the ways of God.

Mothers of Faith — Agents for God

Leaders in Times of Trouble There was a time of great calamity in the history of the people of Israel. They had suffered for twenty years under the cruel hand of Jabin of Hazor their enemy. They needed wise and dedicated leadership to lead them out of their troubles. And the best man for this job was a woman. God had chosen Deborah to lead his people as their judge, one who was governor, as well as, legal decision-maker and arbiter. In this dangerous time when settlements had ceased and foreign forces were invading, God chose a mother in Israel to encourage Barak, her military leader. God spoke to Deborah urging her to gather the people to cast off their oppressors. And in the end, God blessed the efforts of Deborah’s small ill-equipped army of volunteers in their fight against a much superior force of chariots and well-armed soldiers. Mothers of faith can make all the difference.

In God’s Service? — How are you managing?

Comments Off on In God’s Service? — How are you managing?, Videos, by CGP.

Servants of our Master Sectarianism was a negative part of the religious milieu in Paul’s day. In order to combat this divisive “party spirit” he made it plain that we are all “in God’s service.” And this service is to a common master. So we should all be performing our role as servants of God working together to perform his will. But sometimes we find this concept daunting. What does it really mean to be in God’s service?

Good Works — Agents of Change and the Path of Faith

Luther’s Legacy There has long been contention in the Christian world concerning the relationship between faith and good works. Over 500 years ago in late October, Martin Luther, opened up this “can of worms” in the fall of 1517. He had posted his 95 Thesis on the Wittenberg church door in the hopes of stimulating intellectual debate. But 4 years later at the “Diet of Worms” he found himself fighting for his life over the questions he had raised. He had broken the church monopoly and championed the ideas of freedom of conscience, speech, and religion. This was a great boon to all those who wanted to embrace the principal of ‘sola scriptura’ and reject the authority of church councils. Modern “Framework” has Medieval Roots Unfortunately, Luther’s tentative steps towards recapturing the ‘faith once delivered to the saints’ were limited due to Medieval misconceptions.
