Scripture or Social Proof from cogwebcast on Vimeo.
“Social proof” is a very powerful motivating force in society. It is just so natural for us to get our cues for behaviour from those in our social group. We do not want to be out of step with those around us. But relying on “social proof” can be very detrimental to our spiritual welfare. Jeff Patton looks into the scriptures to ascertain God’s perspective and discover whether God is putting us to the test, or are we testing God? You need to know!

How does God work in our lives? Many people are currently facing severe difficulties this spring due to the flooding in Manitoba and along the Mississippi River. Yet, when we who believe in God’s providence face such challenges, we can have confidence that God will work for our good. Jeff Patton reflects on God’s personal interest in us and our welfare and how he works in our lives for our good.
As amazing as this lovely sunny Victoria Day weekend may seem, the American radio evangelist, Harold Camping and his followers, who are mostly evangelical Protestants, are adamantly expecting and vociferously announcing to the world that there will be a massive earthquake rolling around the planet through its various time zones on May 21st…
RECKLESS WORDS PIERCE LIKE A SWORD – Proverbs 12:18
By Jean Jantzen
If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless – James 1:26
A tear ran silently down her cheek. She wanted to curl up in a little ball and disappear. “How could they say those things about me?” She knew in her heart they were not true. Still the accusations wounded her deeply. The words made her stomach bitter; they tumbled round and round in her head devastating, discouraging, and depressing her. Why wouldn’t the negative words go away and leave her alone? Why did the words trouble her, festering in her brain like a boil ready to blow? It was like a black cloud had engulfed her.

Jeff Patton delves deeper into the biblical instructions that God provides for our mental and physical well-being.

Was the killing of Osama Bin Laden by the Navy SEALs, who were acting under the orders of President Barak Obama, justifiable? Or, as decorated WWII war veteran and sole surviving prosecutor at the Nuremberg genocide trials, Benjamin B. Ferencz, asks, was it a pre-meditated illegal assassination?
Ferencz, now 92, would like our world to be more humane and secure. His hope for a better future has led him to be a strong supporter of the work being carried out by today’s International Criminal Court. Ferencz wants to see the world’s present political ethos favouring the “rule of force” replaced by “the rule of law.” Consequently, the former Nuremburg prosecutor would have greatly preferred seeing Osama Bin Laden put on trial for mass murder rather than summarily dispatched with a couple of bullets to the head. He notes…

In a CBS News interview yesterday, U.S. President Barak Obama rejected releasing grisly death pictures of the al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden, saying,
“We don’t trot this stuff out as trophies… The fact of the matter is, this was somebody who was deserving of the justice that he received, and I think Americans and people around the world are glad that he is gone. But we don’t need to spike the football” (referring to the iconic athletic enthusiasm exhibited by American footballers when they score touchdown points).
