The Passover and Unleavened Bread

Passover in the spring of the year is rich in symbolism relating to our covenant relationship with God and helping us to see the need for self-reflection, a sacrifice for our sins, and a Saviour to restore a right relationship with God and deliver us from Egypt – a symbol of life cut off from God’s wisdom and guidance.

Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8 Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1 Corinthians 5:7-9 ESV

These are the feasts of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times. On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the LORD’s Passover. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the LORD; seven days you must eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it. But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD for seven days. The seventh day shall be a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it. Leviticus 23:4-8

Hebrew Calendar Valid Today?

March 2016
I had a visit from our friendly neighbourhood Jehovah’s witness today offering me a chance to join them in March for their Passover memorial…this created a question in my mind as I’m anticipating Passover in the end of April. So why the difference?
It reminded me of an article by John Ogwyn, a thoughtful gentleman that my husband worked with for a few years.
I think he addresses the question of when we should observe the Holy Days with insight and clarity, and in accordance with the scriptures. Here is his original article with some subtitles added.

The Hebrew Calendar

By John Ogwyn

Since 1986, the calendar has been a recurring source of doctrinal controversy in the Church of God. Many articles and papers have proposed different methods of calculating the dates of the annual festivals, and at least a half-dozen different calendars and calculation methods have been offered.
This has troubled many sincere brethren who want to do what pleases God. With all the controversy, they are unsure. But does God really expect each individual Church member to become an expert on calendar matters?  More

Challenging Atheism: Proofs of God’s Existence

Atheism would render all belief in God irrelevant, but is it the truth? Can we substantiate our belief in God’s existence, His power, and his work in the world and our lives.

Proof of God’s Millennial Rule

First century Christians believed in the coming of Christ to establish his government on the earth and reign for a thousand years as understood from the scriptures and early Christian writers. But over time this understanding was lost. How can we prove that there will be a “Millennium?”

God commands us to go up to His Feasts three times a year, to present an offering that we may remember Him and all that he has done for us:

Three times a year all your males shall appear before the LORD your God at the place that he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, at the Feast of Weeks, and at the Feast of Booths. They shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God that he has given you. – Deuteronomy 16:16-17 (ESV)

This spring, we will be hosting a variety of services and festivities in beautiful Penticton, British Columbia to celebrate the New Testament Passover, the Hebrew Passover and the first day of Unleavened Bread. We invite you to join us for Celebrate! Passover 2014 on April 11-16.

Starting with a Welcome and Hymn Sing-a-long on April 11, Celebrate! Passover will offer many opportunities to fellowship and worship. Activities include video workshop and filming for our Truth Bytes series, an unleavened bread bake-off, a group lunch and wine tasting (TBC), a buffet dinner for The Night to be Much Observed, a family dance and a potluck dinner.
